Redman Olympic Triathalon

After spending a lovely evening with our friends Joey and Stacy on Saturday night, it was soon early  morning, and race time for Ryan!

We made our way to Lake Hefner around 6am to warm up and find friends Carol (who was twinkies with Ryan) and Joe.

I particularly liked the sign on the dock that said "do not pee in the lake".  That's you, athletes!  Keep that water and red dirt clean.

Ryan came out of the water strong and smiling.  Carol is right behind him, you can see her pink swim cap (and twinkie outfit) bobbing behind.  I snapped a photo right before they ran off into the transition area to grab their bikes and start the second portion of the race.

After lap 2 Ryan yells "Medic T-2" at me and keeps riding past.  So I jump up and tell the woman near that Sprint 2 Lap sign the message and she stares at me like a crazy person.  The other volunteers standing near get on their walkies to see if something happened on the route (which I assumed too) and then say, "that doesn't make sense, T-2 is the transition area and he hasn't been by there yet".  They couldn't figure out if Ryan needed a medic or if he saw someone else who needed a medic and was yelling the wrong code.  Heck if I know!  We were all stumped and ultimately did nothing.  When in doubt...

He flies by us 2 more times and then off to the transition area again to start running.

FINISHED!

After the race, Ryan ran straight from the finish line to the medical tent.  He was the athlete who needed help, he sliced his thumb on the spokes of his tire on lap 2 but didn't want to stop competing.  Nothing a little gauze and tape couldn't take care of, but what a way to run a 10k, with a bleeding finger.  Poor guy.

These guys are rockstars.
They swam 1.5K, biked 25 miles, and ran a 10K, all before 12 o'clock.

Saying, "See Ya Later"

We don't do goodbyes.
Only see ya later's!

We're Moving!

 We're moving to Denver, CO!

Ryan accepted a perfect-for-him job, so we will be saying goodbye to Oklahoma and helllooooo to Colorado next week!  Can't wait to share with you all the new sights and sounds and smells, our neighborhood, new favorite places to eat and explore, the list goes on and on.  Eeeeeeee!

It's HOT Ya'll

100+ temperatures call for only one activity outside the air conditioned house: swimming.

Lots and lots of swimming.
And snacking.

And then some more swimming.

Then last night something magical happened, IT RAINED!  I sort of wanted to cry.

Out for Drinks

It's been one of those weeks.
You know, the busy, can't keep up with which day it is, kind of week.

Nothing bad by any means, just busy, and one where we didn't see much of each other for the most part.  So I bought a new dress (it has stripes AND the color purple, I couldn't pass it up) and Ryan changed from his work clothes to end the week on a great note together.

::whispers::  we've never had "drinks" out before, just the two of us, which is kind of sad... but maybe also says that we like the simplicity of going out for dinner and beverages all in one.

Hope you all are enjoying your Friday night too!

4th of July Weekend

The weekend was filled with family, FOOD, friendly gatherings, dinner dates, drinks with the girls, naps, badminton, fireworks, and red/white/blue attire.

It seems I only had my camera handy for 2 days; we had even more fun during the weekend than I was able to capture!

Summertime

Left to right:  cloudy skies on my drive home from work, hot air balloon, veggie kabobs, strawberry dessert, vineyard, Penny looking mischievous, outside the plane window, new skirt, freshly picked lemons.

Summer is in full swing around here and I couldn't be happier. And I'm still in love with Instagram; any Iphone users should get it if you haven't already and fall in love too.  It's great.

Festival of the Arts

The Festival of the Arts is something I look forward to every year!  The weather is usually warm and sunny, the trees are a beautiful shade of green, and the food, most importantly, is amazing.  Artists from all over the country set up booths to display their creations.  I browse mostly, but I really wish I could buy just about everything.  There were some amazing photographers this year too.  Everything was inspiring really and I definitely took mental notes all over the place.  Check and Check.

Don't forget!
Photo Swappers: the theme this week is Shades of Spring.

The Civil Wars

We went to The Civil Wars concert last week at this little venue close to my workplace.  It was one of the few sit down concerts I've experienced and I wanted to get up and dance so many times!  I guess I'm just a move with the music kind of girl.

They are a singer/song writer duo. I believe the woman, Joy Williams used to be a christian artist back in the day.  And the guy, John Paul White, looks incredibly similar to Johnny Depp, don't you think?!

They were incredible together and the chemistry was really there.

You all, it's GORGEOUS outside (on my side of town)...
I will be soaking up the last bit of the sunshine in exactly 1 hour and 49 minutes.

I hope you can too.

Snow Days

Oklahoma shuts DOWN during snowstorms.  People stack deep in line at the grocery store, gas stations, well, completely run out of gas, no one (the city) cleans the roads or streets, and everyone stays inside until it all melts away.

Thus far we:
had 'smores in the fireplace with friends
Rented movies
ate chili + cornbread
enjoyed cups of hot chocolate
and played outside with the pup- she loooooves the snow.

I know friends further north are having many more problems with the weather!  I'm so thankful they are doing okay.  Hang in there!

Home

Oklahoma isn't the most visually stimulating place in the country, but for now it's home, and we try to make the best of it.  Like a little day hike with our pup at a state park just north of Oklahoma City.

It was the last day of sunny weather before the snow flurries made their appearance.  The wind was a bit chilly, but the sun beaming down felt so nice and warm and inviting.  Zia really enjoyed the trail too.  She chased down bike riders, snacked on fruit and nuts with us (she never gets "people food" so this was huge), and frolicked in the high grass right off the trail.

Free tickets? We'll Take Them

"No, of course we aren't busy on a Sunday night and can come in such short notice!"

This was our first NBA game together and we were really excited.  Thankfully I had just bought this shirt last week or I would have had no blue clothes to support the team (remember, I'm just started branching out).

Now, if there are any Seattle readers out there, don't get hasty.  I know you all aren't too happy with the fact that we kind of stole your team.

When Ryan and I were on our honeymoon we met a lovely Washington couple at a winery and through conversation they found out we lived in OKC and within the next couple minutes of that conversation they let us know just how they felt about the NBA switch, haha.  The husband was sort of joking, but also sort of serious.  Sorry, folks!

So many happy fans in front of us cheering (nice things and not so nice things) like mad.  Hey, they were enthusiastic.  I like that.

At halftime, we saw little parachutes falling from the sky.  This went on forever.  But we didn't catch a t-shirt, or really come close.

I'd like to think so!

Well, then we started to loose.  And then people started to leave.  But true fans as we are, we stayed until the very end.

Thanks Cassie and Trace for the tickets!

Wait Wait...

don't tell me!

the only blurry (forbidden) photo I took

No way have I laughed this much in an hour an a half.  The show was great!  Thanks, NPR for making your way to OKC.
